17 Things I learned after my first month of Remote Year
- You do not need as much stuff as you think you do.
- Bartering is a way of life.
- Don't sweat the small coins. It all comes around eventually.
- Your group is your family. The sooner you realize that the sooner it manifests.
- Be actively inclusive. You never know if someone is just too shy to ask.
- Everyone handles stress differently. Be kind, always.
- Everyone's financial situation is different. Don't be jealous of what anyone has or can do, because you never know who's looking at you thinking the same thing.
- You might be surprised who shows up for you in a moment of need. Make sure to be that person for others.
- Remember to call your mom. She worries, even if she pretends she doesn't.
- Befriend locals. International hospitality is incredible.
- Keep your wits about you. Not everyone has good intentions, unfortunately.
- It's okay to say no. There's still 335 days to go.
- Taking yourself on dates is super underrated.
- Write down what you do daily, even if they're just bullet points. The days are long and busy. It's amazing how hard it is to remember what you did 5 days ago.
- Go somewhere or do something new every day.
- Stay inside every once in a while.
- There are so many more hours in the day than you realized before. You just weren't using them properly.
